A new milestone for product carbon footprint declaration and environmental product declarations
Lite-On Technology Corp. (TW 2301) today announced that it has completed the worldwide first Optoelectronic Semiconductor Product Category Rule (PCR). This PCR complies with ISO 14025 standards addressing the characteristics of optoelectronic semiconductor manufacturing, and was compiled based on input from major optoelectronic semiconductor companies. The scope of this PCR covers energy and water consumption, pollutant production, waste production, air pollution, carbon footprint, and other factors. It can act as a reference for global optoelectronic semiconductor companies when completing Product Carbon Footprint Declaration and Environmental Product Declaration Type III (EPD) .
Taking into consideration its Global Corporate Citizenship responsibility to produce environment-friendly products, Lite-On began working on the Optoelectronic Semiconductor PCR this year, voluntarily participating in a special project for the Industrial Development Bureau, Ministry of Economic Affairs, with guidance from the Foundation of Taiwan Industry Service. Lite-On convened a meeting this year to gather the opinions of the domestic optoelectronic semiconductor industry. The Optoelectronic Semiconductor PCR was certified by the Environment and Development Foundation and authorized by the Global Type III Environmental Product Declarations Network (GEDnet). The Optoelectronic Semiconductor PCR will be posted on the GEDnet website (http://www.gednet.org/).
Lite-On Technology Corp.
Founded in 1975, Lite-On Technology was the first company to produce Optoelectronics (LED) in Taiwan. Upon its initial public offering in 1983, Lite-On Technology Corp was the first technology company listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange. Over the past three decades, Lite-On Technology has successfully maintained a "profitable growth" strategy, and has focused on the development of core components, including power supplies, imaging products, and optoelectronic components. Lite-On products are widely used in the 4C fields of computers, communications, consumer electronics, and car electronics, enjoying a leading position in global markets. As a result of Lite-On Group’s active moves into green energy industries in recent years, and capitalizing on the advantages of its competency in the ICT industry, Lite-On has expanded into new energy and new illuminant businesses. It has developed a “comprehensive green energy supply chain,” incorporating solar power (energy creation), optoelectronics inverters (energy conversion), LED lighting and high efficiency switching power supplies (energy saving), and electric power systems and stationary storage systems (energy storage), all of which will be a new force driving Lite-On Group’s further growth.
