Diversity & Inclusiveness

Preface

Mr. Tom Soong has served as the Chairman of the LITEON Cultural Foundation since 2020. The Foundation has been committed to caring for people with the key corporate values of “Easy Cooperation and Open Sharing”, focusing on three groups: second-generation new immigrants, indigenous peoples, and people with disabilities. We help younger generations discover their resilience and inner strength, and find the courage to actively pursue their dreams, so that every visionary child and youth can have the courage to pursue their dreams and reach for the stars.

We understand that students from diverse backgrounds face very complex challenges, carrying family and economic pressures on their shoulders while at the same time dealing with structural problems in society and culture. Therefore, the LITEON Cultural Foundation hopes to fulfill its mission in three ways: firstly, relieve the burden from families’ everyday lives through long-term, thorough support; secondly, encourage in-depth discussions and reflection on cultural differences to overcome biases and build self-confidence; and thirdly, for students in junior and senior high school and above, further encourage career exploration and broaden their horizons.

1. Second-Generation Immigrants

Do you understand the culture of new immigrants? What kind of life do you think new immigrant families lead? Are they fluent in both languages and often travel abroad to visit their families? Or do you think of the authentic Vietnamese Pho restaurant in the corner of your hometown?

According to statistics from the National Immigration Agency, Taiwan currently has 650,000 new immigrants, accounting for close to 3% of our population. According to statistics from the Ministry of Education, the number of second-generation students was 7.3%. New immigrants have officially become the fourth largest ethnic group in Taiwan. These new immigrants came to Taiwan from different countries, built their families here, brought along their native culture and cuisine, and continue to add vibrancy to Taiwanese society.

LITEON Child Care Assistance Program

The LITEON Cultural Foundation joined hands with the Pearl S. Buck Foundation. LITEON employees volunteered to become sponsors and adopt “LITEON children”, helping to cover the life expenses of kids from underprivileged new immigrant families. The Foundation allocates funds to cover children’s educational expenses and accompany them on the path of learning. Our gratitude goes to over a hundred LITEON employees for their enthusiasm and participation as sponsors, demonstrating LITEON’s spirit of warmth and care.

Sponsors reach out to LITEON children and offer encouragement through letters, building bonds with new immigrant pen pals across generations. During special holidays, the sponsors can also join celebrations, meet with LITEON children, and strengthen their mutual connection.

LITEON employees who are willing to join the LITEON Sponsorship Program can contact  Liteoncf@liteon.com Your touching support will encourage more children to pursue their dreams and live their full potential.

Convey your blessings and good wishes to new immigrants. On November 11, 2023, LITEON held the first Circular Secondhand Bazaar. Some of the proceeds from the charity sales served to support the Pearl S. Buck Foundation in organizing a dinner for new immigrant families, so their children can also enjoy a Lunar New Year celebration and receive red envelopes.

2. Indigenous Youth Empowerment

“Indigenous Boxers Strike!”—Helping Indigenous Youths to Find Their Identity Through Boxing

The Foundation actively promotes an equal and inclusive society with mutual understanding and tolerance. The goal is to provide future generations of all ethnic groups with opportunities to demonstrate their strengths, and create a friendly environment through empathy and care. In 2023, the Foundation collaborated with The World to plan and organize the series of boxing events “Indigenous Boxers Strike!” This served as a stage for outstanding indigenous youth boxers mentored by the Foundation, who acted as coaches to confidently showcase their talent. The event series aims to help LITEON employees better understand the cultural difficulties faced by indigenous urban-dwellers, learn to appreciate cultural diversity, and embrace the beauty of diverse values together.

Circular Secondhand Bazaar Proceeds Make Dreams Come True
LITEON Donates Professional Boxing Shoes to Help Urban Indigenous Boxing Team Forge Ahead

To encourage students to stand by their ideals in the face of adversity, on December 18, 2024, LITEON and LITEON Cultural Foundation donated some of the proceeds gathered by employees in the Circular Secondhand Bazaar’s charity sales to gift professional boxing shoes to every member of the Urban Indigenous Boxing Team, so they could give their best in the 2024 National Middle School Athletic Games and Presidents Cup. More than an incentive to reward these athletes’ hard work, the boxing shoes shine a light of hope for their future. These professional boxing shoes inspire children to be more confident and give full play to their abilities in training and tournaments. LITEON employees wish that these boxing shoes will set children on the track to fulfill their dreams, allowing them to persevere in adversity, face challenges with courage, and become unique boxing stars in the future.

3. Persons with Disabilities

LITEON and over 20 business partners jointly organized the Circular Secondhand Bazaar in 2024. Some proceeds from LITEON employees’ charity sales served to support Victory Social Welfare Foundation and Tranbo Art. The aim is to help people with disabilities to hone their professional skills in a safe environment or a regular workplace. We believe that every individual has unlimited potential. With access to appropriate support and opportunities, people with disabilities can also shine in their craft. LITEON will continue to join forces with more business partners to jointly create a more inclusive and friendlier social environment.
