LITE-ON Technology Wins the First Prize of 2021 Corporate Social Responsibility Award from Global Views Magazine

LITE-ON Technology (TW 2301) is pleased to announce that it has won the 2021 Corporate Social Responsibility Award from Global Views Magazine, awarded the First Prize of the ESG Comprehensive Performance in Electronics Technology Industry, particularly for its comprehensive performance from establishing Corporate Sustainability Committee operations with 4 independent directors; setting up carbon reduction Science Based Targets (SBTs), implementing internal carbon taxes, launching low-carbon products, developing sustainable materials and pioneering marine waste renewable raw materials; holding LITEON Award together with academia to promote innovation over 20 years have been unanimously affirmed by Global Views Magazine jury.

 

The Corporate Sustainability Committee directly under the board of directors of LITEON has been chaired by Tom Soong since November 2020, leading to set up and supervise the implementation of annual targets, and regularly reporting to the board of directors. LITEON passed the establishment of a nomination committee in February 2021, which is responsible for defining the requirements for directors and senior managers to find and nominate candidates while assisting the board to strengthen the management mechanism and improve corporate governance.

 

“LITEON continues to deploy industry mega trends such as cloud computing and 5G/AIoT, opto-electronics, automotive electronics, etc., while working hard to achieve its commitment for green and low-carbon products and science based targets (SBTs), of which, LITEON committed to achieve a 2% increase of energy conversion efficiency of power supply products by 2023 compared to the base year 2016. In 2020, the energy conversion efficiency of LITEON’s power supplies have increased by 4.56% compared to the base year, and reached the target of 2% ahead of schedule, helping global end-users save about 466 million kWh of electricity each year, and reduce Greenhouse Gas (GHG) of 237,000 tonnes CO2e per year.” said Mr. Anson Chiu, President of LITEON Technology.

 

In recent years, LITEON Technology has continued to invest in marine ecological protection and promoted the SEAHOPE project, especially the research and development of marine waste Styrofoam into recycled plastics, which were successfully used in LITEON’s keyboards and mice products as well as production line tray packaging materials, became the first company introduced marine waste Styrofoam into electronic products in the world. SEAHOPE project has organized a series of "creative beach cleanup" since 2018, and transformed the recycled marine waste Styrofoam into recycled plastic by cooperating with social enterprises, Penghu County government and Industrial Technology Research Institute. In 2020, LITEON further sponsored the world’s first container that can handle on-site processing and significantly reduce the shipping volume of marine waste Styrofoam by 90% to Penghu and Kinmen County governments; LITEON’s recycled plastic has obtained Post-Consumer Recycled (PCR) 76% use and traceability certification, and will be applied to more products and fields in the future with expectation to reduce plastic raw materials from fossil fuels.

 

LITEON has been selected as a member of the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) for tenth consecutive years, included in the Constituent MSCI ESG Leaders Indexes for seven consecutive years, awarded “Bronze Class” in the Computers & Peripherals and Office Electronics industry in the 2021 Sustainability Yearbook by S&P Global, and received the highest rating of "Leaderboard" in 2020 CDP Supplier Engagement Rating (SER). In Taiwan, LITEON was consecutively certified as a constituent in the FTSE4Good Taiwan Index Plus (TIP) Taiwan ESG Index, and awarded “Corporate Citizenship” Award from Common Wealth Magazine for 14th straight years. Moreover, LITEON won seven 2020 Taiwan Corporate Sustainable Awards (TCSA), namely Top 10 Domestic Companies Sustainability Model Award (Manufacturing Industry), Corporate Sustainability Report Platinum Award, coupled with the Best Practice Awards of Creativity in Communication, Climate Leadership, Circular Economy Leadership, Social Inclusion and Information Security.
