Product Green Design and Management

LITEON is committed to managing the environmental impact of its products throughout their entire life cycle. Guided by the CSR Code of Conduct and the principles of reduce, reuse, and recycle (3R), we integrate green design concepts into product development to minimize environmental impact. Our products are designed to be non-toxic, easy to assemble and disassemble, and environmentally friendly, extending product life and improving resource efficiency.

Comprehensive Life Cycle Assessment (Full LCA)

LITEON conducts rigorous Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) in accordance with ISO 14040/14044 standards, covering five stages: raw materials, manufacturing, transportation, use, and disposal. Carbon emission calculations are performed using the Taiwanese LCA software DoItPro developed by ITRI. Major products undergo Full LCA verified by third-party organizations and certified under ISO 14025 (Environmental Product Declaration) or ISO 14067 (Carbon Footprint Declaration). Products such as SMD LEDs, 3C power supplies, automotive LED modules, server power supplies, and LED streetlights have obtained these certifications. In 2024, Full LCA coverage reached 38.03%.

Simplified Life Cycle Assessment (Simplified LCA)

To embed sustainability early in design, LITEON applies a Design for Environment (DfE) Checklist, including material reduction, substitution, energy-saving design, ease of disassembly, and recyclability. This approach is applied to globally shipped 3C power supplies, server power supplies and chassis, mice, keyboards, LED streetlights, and components. In 2024, Simplified LCA coverage reached 54.07%.

Externally Recognized Standards and Hazardous Substance Management

LITEON complies with IEC 62430 for environmental assessments and integrates 3R principles into product development. We have adopted IECQ QC080000 and established the LS301 Technical Standard for hazardous substance management, identifying 569 SVHCs in 2024. Through our Green Material System (GMS), we collaborate with suppliers to meet international regulations such as RoHS, REACH, California Proposition 65, and the Montreal Protocol. All suppliers must sign an Environmental Substance Declaration to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and customer requirements.

Product Life Cycle Assessment and Improvement

In 2024, The cumulative carbon reduction due to the green product design reached 416,973 tons of CO₂eStage in Product Life Cycle and Results in 2024 are as follow:

Green Mark and Environmental Declarations of Product

Green mark product certification

Green Marks are certifications awarded by national labeling organizations in accordance with ISO 14024, which defines the specifications for various product categories. Products that have been verified by a third party to meet or exceed these specifications receive this label. For instance, Taiwan's EPA Green Mark is granted to high-quality products that rank in the top 20% to 30% for environmental performance among their peers. Other Green Marks generally adhere to similar criteria. Since most LITEON products are produced under ODM or OEM arrangements, many Type I environmental protection labels are primarily intended to assist brand customers in their applications. The applications submitted on behalf of LITEON are listed as follows.

Sustainable Revenue Disclosure

LITE-ON Technology demonstrates a strong commitment to sustainability through its product and service portfolio.
From FY2021 to FY2024, the company generated substantial revenues from three categories of sustainable offerings:

  • Products certified with Type I eco-labels (EPEAT): Third-party verified products that comply with ISO 14024 standards, covering comprehensive environmental criteria across the product life cycle.
  • Products certified with single/multi-attribute eco-labels (Energy and Safety): Products certified for specific environmental attributes such as energy efficiency and safety, verified by independent third-party schemes.
  • Other sustainable products and services (Taxonomy-aligned): Products and services that substantially contribute to environmental objectives as defined by the EU Taxonomy, including Opto-electronics, Cloud and AIoT, Information Technology and Consumer Electronics, Energy Management and Other Services:. This category excludes products already covered by eco-label certifications.

The total sustainable revenue reached TWD 86.8 billion in FY2021, gradually adjusting to TWD 51.1 billion in FY2024.
The proportion of sustainable revenue to total revenue remained significant, ranging from 52.66% in FY2021 to 37.26% in FY2024.

These figures reflect LITE-ON’s ongoing efforts to integrate environmental responsibility into its core business strategy,
supporting climate change mitigation, circular economy transition, and sustainable research, development and innovation.

Product carbon footprint declaration

To fulfill its commitment to green product responsibility, LITEON provides customers with comprehensive information about the carbon footprint of its products, using this data as a foundation for designing subsequent lower-carbon products. In 2022, we initiated a large-scale project to catalog the carbon footprints across all product categories. We thoroughly completed the product carbon footprint inventory and performed Full Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) according to ISO 14067:2018 standards for representative products in each category, focusing on those with high shipment volumes, significant revenue, or long-term sales success.

Following the inventory, we conducted a hotspot analysis and set a goal to reduce carbon emissions from next-generation products by at least 5%. In 2023, we implemented a feasibility assessment methodology for carbon reduction plans, evaluating and verifying the potential of these plans for identified carbon emission hotspots. We also integrated the 3R carbon reduction strategy into LITEON’s product development specifications, in alignment with IEC 62430. Our commitment to continuous improvement through the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) cycle will drive us toward achieving our carbon reduction targets.

Additionally, all LITEON products comply with relevant information and labeling directives. In 2024, the company maintained adherence to laws related to product and service information, with no violations reported. Furthermore, there were no customer complaints concerning health and safety regulations associated with our products and services.
