LITE-ON Technology Reports Second Quarter Net Profit of NT$1.76 Billion with EPS of NT$ 0.76, up 69% sequentially

LITE-ON Technology (2301-tw) today reported second quarter consolidated sales of NT$54.71 billion, up 13% Q-o-Q and 3% YoY. Thanks to stable growth from LED/ Vehicle Lighting, Cloud Computing, AI Smart Home devices and Gaming applications, the second quarter gross profit and operating profit increased 21% Q-o-Q and 92% Q-o-Q respectively, while gross margin and operating margin were 11.9% and 2.8%, posting quarterly growth of 0.8% and 1.2% respectively. Net profit reached NT$1.76 billion with EPS of NT$0.76, up 69% Q-o-Q.

 

Stable operations and profitability were seen in the first half of 2018, and the accumulative sales reached NT$103.2 billion; gross margin and operating margin were 11.5% and 2.2% respectively, the operating profit was NT$2.3 billion; mainly impacted by raw material price hikes, cost pressures and currency volatility. Meanwhile, the profit before tax and net profit were NT$3.8 billion and NT$2.8 billion, respectively, resulting in the EPS of NT$1.20 in the first half of 2018.

 

In the second quarter, Opto-electronics contributed a 30% share of total sales. Thanks to the growing demand from invisible LED, ongoing market share gains in LED components, smooth delivery of LED vehicle lighting, street lighting’s increased shipment to Middle East market, coupled with delivery growth in high-end smartphone camera modules, Opto-electronics posted a growth of over 30% Q-o-Q. Meanwhile, the transfer of handset camera module business has been completed in the second quarter.

 

The Information Technologies business accounted for 51% of total sales, of which, delivery growth of high-end server and networking power management systems as well as server enclosures for cloud computing and power supplies for AI smart home devices, coupled with ongoing market share gains in HIS (Human Input Solutions - PC Keyboards and Peripherals) supported Information Technologies to achieve a revenue growth of over 10% Q-o-Q. Additionally, the Storage segment accounted for 14% of total revenue.

 

Looking ahead, sequential growth is expected in the third quarter, thanks to stable market demand of LED components/ Outdoor General Lighting, Cloud Computing, AI Smart Home Devices and Consumer Electronics.
